This isn't going to be a solution loved by many here, but the quick, easy (and dirty) way to do this is to build reader fields into those group documents you want to restrict. You'll then be responsible for keeping the reader fields current.
Of course this solution isn't really a solution - it's a dodge. However, it does work and I think it's a realistic compromise to get you where you want to be.
